Christmas tree recycling

Here at Oval News, we are only just setting up our Christmas trees, but being keen on recycling are already planning on how they can be recycled once the festive season is over.

The council will collect Christmas trees just after New Year. We understand that the resulting wood chip will be used in the borough's parks.

Depending on the type of property you live in, they will either collect it from your home or from a local drop site.

If you live in a kerbside property, all you need to do is leave your real Christmas tree next to your refuse bin on your normal collection day.

If you live in a Lambeth Living property on an estate, simply leave your tree next to your estate recycling bank. They will pick up the trees in the week commencing 5 January 2009.

If you do not live in a kerbside street property or Lambeth Living property you can still recycle your Christmas tree by taking it to one of Lambeth's four sites for recycling trees.

The local site for the Oval area is Kennington Park, Kennington Park Road, SE11

Wilcox Road - consultation

A consultation event was held in Wilcox Road on 13th December 2008, 3-6pm, and had a good turnout, despite the appalling weather!

Lib Dem Councillors turned up as well to hear local people's views.

Initial designs were presented which residents commented on. This could also involve a market or a small children's play area, in addition to a range of other environmental improvements.

The designs have been based on the feedback already received from the local businesses and resident associations of the area. The feedback from this will help progress the designs to a more complete design, which they will consult with you on at a later stage. The project is planned for implementation in 2009 – 2010.

And let us know as your local ward councillors what you think the future of Wilcox Road should be.
